There are definitely not enough green devices out there on the market and there are a lot of innovators exploiting the situation. The latest to “ravish” our world is Philips' Biosphere home farming concept that will basically make you eat trash, but in a refined way.

Philips has developed a stunning new concept home farming system that not only provides you with the food you eat, but also delivers fresh hydrogen, heat and gas, which can be further used to nourish plants, illuminate your house or even power your fuel-cell car in the future. The Biosphere Home Farming Concept, as the folks at Philips call it, is a completely interdependent system in which processes rely on one another rather than on any external aid. The system uses waste water and non-consumable household matter and delivers food in return.

The structure houses fishes, root vegetables, grasses, herbs, plants and algae under a common roof. The only external aid that the system depends on is nothing more than kitchen trash. Trash is used to nourish the farm, while the methane digester, which the system is equipped with, produces the much desired heat and gas to power lights. Similarly, algae produce hydrogen that can be used as fuel for fuel-cell systems or to produce more electricity. Plants produce oxygen, which is fed into the fish tank, thereby feeding fish, which can further feed you. Getting confused? Don’t worry, it’s just a concept, at least for the moment.

Unfortunately, the system highly depends on the processes that are carried out in the system itself, if any of the above mentioned confusing processes fail, the whole system will fail. However, if all goes well, the system could provide you with vital calories. So, all you need to do, in case this concept actually becomes reality is to be careful about everything.
