Choosing the right case for a LAN party computer can be really difficult since it most certainly requires a chassis that can take quite a bit of punishment while also looking good for those all important bragging rights, the BitFenix Survivor promising to cater to all those needs.
Design wise, this is certainly easy on the eyes, the rounded edges and black finishing making it quite an attractive case, the proprietary BitFenix SofTouch surface treatment also making this stains and scratches resistant, so you can rest assured the Survivor won't be covered in fingerprints and smudges a few minutes after you set up your system over at a
LAN party.
Another attractive addition to the overall appearance of the Survivor is the LED-lit BitFenix logo placed on the top side that can switched on or off at a press of a button.
But great looks isn't all that the Survivor advertises, since this chassis can house up to nine 2.5” SSD drives or seven 3.5” hard disks, the modular drive cage also being completely removable in order to accommodate extra-long graphics cards.
Other features include support for up to two 200mm fans or three 120mm fans, a pop-up carry handle,
two USB 3.0 top panel ports, the BitFenix S2 peripheral security and cable management device that can be used to secure your mouse, keyboard or headset and a BitFenix Lockdown system that protects your graphics card against vibration during transport.
"We wanted to design a PC
chassis that had ruggedized features, but didn’t necessarily look like a tractor," says David Jarlestedt, BitFenix Product Manager.
"Will you be able to throw it in front of a moving bus or down the stairs?
No, but you won’t have to worry about damaged hardware while driving to your friend's house or LAN party".
The BitFenix Survivor comes with a $109 price tag, but a Core version is also available, that gives up on the USB 3.0 ports, the BitFenix S2 and Lockdown devices and one of the two 200mm fans bundled with the case, in order to drop the price down to $89.
