As we've mentioned time and time again, 2010 really is the year of the tablet, and for this reason, we're seeing quite a large number of companies getting actively involved in this field. However, we're still waiting to see certain
products of this type from some of the world's most important smartphone manufacturers (the prime candidates for building a successful tablets), but we're just in mid-2010, with plenty of time for announcements later on.
And one of the top names in the list who's apparently hard at work developing such a portable computing system is
RIM (Research in Motion), the firm behind some of the world's best-known smartphones, the BlackBerry family.
So, as
CNET reports, an analyst close to the matter (Ashok Kumar from Rodman & Renshaw) claims that RIM is getting ready for the release of a rather small-size (7 inches) BlackBerry tablet towards the end of 2010, the device being powered by a 1GHz processor from Marvell. Unfortunately, that's just about everything the analyst cared to share, but it was quite enough to get the buzz levels up.
In fact, chances are that this rumor might actually be quite true, given the fact that Marvell's got an extensive experience in the field of
Internet tablets, enough to make the development process a lot easier and faster for RIM. Only hope that push e-mail will continue to be a major feature of the BlackBerry tablet as well.
