Although some might associate some rather inadequate uses to the concept of USB microscope, the truth of the matter is that these devices can really come in handy in numerous legitimate fields, such as forensics or quality control, just to give a couple of examples. And now, Bodelin (the maker of the system that turns your iPhone into a
teleprompter, among other things) has announced having released an upgraded version of its ProScope HR handheld USB2 microscope.
The new ProScope HR2, which has been equipped with a 2-megapixel sensor (supporting resolutions of up to 1600x1200 pixels), will join the current ProScope HR, at 1.3 megapixels (resolutions up to 1280x1024), in the ProScope HR product line. The new device will also work with Bodelin's line of ProScope lenses that range from 0-10X, 30X, 50X, 100X, 200X, 400X, 500X to 1000X. Bodelin also has adapters for borescopes and analog microscopes.
Given these extensive features, it's really no wonder that the ProScope and ProScope HR handheld
digital microscopes are currently used for a wide range of purposes, such as schools, universities, law enforcement forensic labs, manufacturing quality control, medical and tele-medicine.
Another thing really worth mentioning here is the fact that the new ProScope HR2 is an extremely versatile device, enabling users to carry out all sorts of features. So, the bundled software will capture stills, video and time lapse, and it can also be used live over the Internet (similar to a
webcam) with programs like Skype and Apple iChat, since it supports a wide array of resolutions, including here 320x240 pixels (QVGA), 640x480 pixels (VGA) and 1280x1024 pixels (SXGA).
The 2-megapixel ProScope HR2 will begin shipping on September 1, 2009 and can be pre-ordered starting right now for around 350 US dollars for each unit.
