Given the fact that they're typically manufactured out of expensive materials, using the most advanced technologies available on the market and exquisite craftsmanship, audiophile loudspeakers are typically a lot more expensive than ordinary speakers, but at the same time, they're able to provide a far superior sound quality. And that's exactly the case with the particular devices you'll read about as follows, namely the Audiomanufacture Boenicke Audio W20SE speakers, which deliver an impressive sound and towering look, for a price higher than that of an SUV.

The audiophile speakers from Boenicke-Audio are manufactured from Solid Black Walnut wood (or custom-made), with a natural oil finish. They sport 20-cm bass-midrange drivers with six times C-37 lacquered paper diaphragm and Marigo Audio VTS Tuning Dots. They also have Harmonix tuning bases, lacquered voice coil and maple phase plug, as well as a RAAL True Ribbon Tweeter, which incorporates the company's own, custom-made cryo-treated silver wire audio transformator by Audio Consulting. The RAAL reaches up to 100 khz.

Now, as expected, these things won't really fit in pretty much any room. In fact, the manufacturer recommends them to be used in fairly large rooms (80 - 150 square meters) where one can set up the Audiomanufacture Boenicke Audio W20SE speakers freely (more than 3 meters distance to the rear wall). Moreover, the setup process won't exactly be a very easy one, given the fact that moving them around will be a fairly difficult task, taking into account their size (24 x 124 x 47 cm) and weight (60 kilos).

The Audiomanufacture Boenicke Audio W20SE speakers are quite exclusive from the point of view of the pricing, as they retail for somewhere in the vicinity of 40,000 US dollars, which is way above what most users (even audiophiles) are willing to pay for such products. But, then again, given their quality and sheer class, the price tag is probably not that exaggerated.

Bah. I'm not an audio engineer, i confess, but solid wood is usually not used in loudspeakers because of the tendency to resonate standing waves, no? And the touted abilit to expand and compress seems like a recipe for cracks and eventual buzzing. I suppose you need a special humidity controlled environment to really make the Boenicke's work. Check out Wilson Audio Alexandria X-2's if you really want to see high end.
