Robots are in fashion this summer, with “Terminator: Salvation” and “Transformers 2” being two of 2009's hits. However, modern, real-life robots are not at all like the characters portrayed in the aforementioned blockbusters. Real-life robots can simply be trusted with a lot of domestic chores, including here carrying around one's babies, as the Korean Bomo robot proves very well.
So, as its manufacturer, BMGK, informs us, Bomo's main function is to hold the baby, similar to any other baby chair out there. However, the device is able to instantly transform into a cradle when the baby needs to take a nap.
And since we've reached this issue (very sensitive for most parents), let's take a quick look at another of this thing's features. So, the Bomo will also gently swing its occupant front and back, thus ensuring the fact that the baby will gently go to sleep.
Furthermore, Bomo can easily move around, following the baby's parents. Hence, Bomo sports an Automatic feature, which turns into a small electric vehicle that moves around the house, being able to avoid various obstacles (walls, tables, etc.) that might appear in front of it. However, it offers users a manual feature, allowing the baby's siblings or parents to actually “drive” the robot (bump avoiding function remains on at all times, though).
The Bomo is powered by a fairly serious battery, which lasts for up to three days (two hours of functioning per day) with just three hours of charging. Its net weight, including the battery, is of around 13 kilos.
Depending on the specific order, Bomo's pricing varies from approximately 780 US dollars (for a single unit) down to 450 US dollars (for over 1,000 units), which is not even that bad, taking into account how useful this thing could prove to be, especially for young parents.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
