People love taking photos, as they remind them of who they were at a certain time in their lives; they are still memories that keep bringing the joys of the past, or merely artistic appreciations of the world surrounding us, whether they are representations of nature, people or abstract objects. However, nobody thought until now that not everyone could benefit from that, especially not the visually impaired.

But this is about to change pretty soon thanks to the Braille Polaroid Camera concept designed by Son Seunghee, Lee Sukyung and Kim Hyunsoo. It allows the visually impaired to take images of their surroundings on a camera that functions like a Polaroid but prints out through a Braille printer.

The Braille Polaroid Camera deserves appreciation not only for the thought, but also for a very simple and useful design. Thus, it has a shape and functions like a conventional camera. The sole exception is the built-in Braille printer, which immediately prints the shot after the user presses the shot button.

The heightened sense of touch developed by blind people has been harnessed for the Braille Polaroid Camera. It can thus produce a record of one’s environment, and perhaps, a greater sense of attachment to the world. With the Braille Polaroid Camera, the blind can now feel objects that they are unable to see and are also capable of collecting images in albums. It is hoped that the Braille Polaroid Camera will allow better communication with the world.

As already mentioned, the Braille Polaroid Camera is just a concept for now, but there are high chances that this changes in a short while, as the idea has already been praised by the people in the industry as being very original, innovative and practical. We'll just have to wait and see, or feel.
