The Japanese have two more gadgets to add on the “Things I need for taking a bath” list, namely these two portable Viera TVs from Panasonic, which are waterproof and come with entertainment where you would least expect it. Why shouldn't you enjoy your favorite TV shows while relaxing in the bathtub?
These are not necessarily fully rugged solutions, because too hot water may even cause damage to them and the top depth they will work from for about 30 minutes is of one meter.
Still, you can always place them on the edge of the tub and watch TV, listen to music, view some photos etc., from there. You wouldn't want to hear your favorite star talking from underwater anyway. Both the ME650 and ME550 models have an improved 1Seg tuner, being capable of delivering a richer multimedia experience to users.
Also, these waterproof portable digital TVs have 5 inches in
screen size, which is perfect for some bath entertainment. With 480 x 272 resolution on an LCD screen, I think that for an hour of soaking, these two portable TVs are more than OK.
However, the ME550 model does not support image or audio files, leaving you only with the possibility to record your favorite shows on SDHC and SDXC memory cards. This is, of course, possible on the PMP-like ME650 model as well. This one is capable of reading the
Jpeg file format and audio formats such as MP3s, AACs or WMAs.
Though the pricing details were not announced by Panasonic, the ME650 model will surely be more expensive because of its extra features and, as usual, these small portable gadgets
will be available exclusively in Japan sometime by the end of the month.
