Without a doubt, augmented-reality will become an extremely popular trend on the future, and Brother has just showcased a solution that will make such solutions a lot more personal than before, namely the AiRScouter.
The AiRScouter retinal
imaging solution enables users to view images on a virtual large screen anytime, anywhere (16 square inches screen viewed in 1m ahead).
That's achieved with the help of RID (Retinal Image Display) technology, which employs a display that focuses light, of an intensity harmless to the eyes, onto the retina and then moves the light at high speed to create afterimages.
In this way, images projected onto the retina appear as if they existed in front of the user.
Moreover, the fact that the solution features a transparent display means that the
wearer's/user's visual field will not be affected in any way.
As for the origins of this technology, Brother has apparently developed the retinal
imaging display by applying optical system technologies based on its laser printing technology, and piezoelectric technologies based on its inkjet printing technology.
There's still no word on the exact moment when the AiRScouter will become officially available, but we're quite eagerly waiting for it, given the very large range of applications it enables (the best example is the possibility to receive real-time information on certain items, while watching them).
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
