If you remember ViewSonic' ViewPad 7 tablet device that went official a month or so ago then the new Spice Mi700 DroidPad might come as a familiar sight, CSL's new 7 inch tablet offering being nearly identical to the ViewPad while it's also packing similar features.
This means the DroidPad comes with the standard Android 2.2 user interface with a few added widgets and Android Market support (free apps only) while Adobe Flash 10.1 support is strangely missing from the specs list.
Hardware wise, the DroidPad is powered by a 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 processor, a 3 megapixel camera on the rear and a VGA webcam on the front, WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G connectivity being also available.
Moving on, we get an SD card reader, a USB port and a 3.5mm jack, but, unfortunately, the seven inch capacitive display is limited to WVGA resolution (800x400 pixels), more then adequate for a smartphone but far to small for such a big display.
Other features include A-GPS support, tethering for up to eight devices and push e-mail, the DroidPad also coming with phone functionality, quite a nice feature if you don't want to be stuck with carrying both a phone and a
tablet with you.
So, how does the Spice Mi700 DroidPad stack up against the competition?
Well, this sure packs enough features to be quite an interesting option for someone in search of an seven inch table, but I doubt this will be much of a rival for the
Samsung Galaxy Tab, while the $500 price tag asked by CSL will definitely make this a hard sell compared to other devices built by more established brands like ViewSonic that come at a similar price point. (via
