I'm pretty sure the name “Nostromo” sounds pretty familiar to all the hardcore fans of the “Alien” series, but hose of you who're not really into all that extraterrestrial stuff should also know that the respective name belongs to the ship that was the stage for the action of the first movie in this series. It was a large, dark vessel, and perhaps these are some of the features famous Swiss watchmaker Cabestan used in creating its latest masterpiece, the Cabestan Nostromo watch.
This dark, mysterious, yet empowering
timepiece is the work of Jean-François Ruchonnet, and, according to the manufacturer, boasts a “powerful and masculine personality.” Some of the main elements that create this image include the very sleek and attractive case, but also the windows on each of the device's sides, which let users take a good look at the interior mechanism.
And since we've tackled this subject, it's worth noting that the Cabestan Nostromo packs an ingenious drive shaft used to transmit energy to the movement, as well as some very innovative bridges that wrap around the drums to create windows that, coupled with the jumping hour, make reading the time and the power reserve excessively simple and elegant.
Furthermore, the
device will start to change as the level of light diminishes, and that's because areas of the movement are discretely covered with a black phosphorescent coating that will illuminate the mechanism with a subtle yellow-green light that flows around the wheels, bridges, drums and drive shaft creating a spectacular effect.
Obviously, the issue of pricing is probably the most delicate one in the case of the Cabestan Nostromo, simply because such a
unique, special watch can't really come at anything but an absolutely huge (and quite “unearthly”) price point. So, those of you who've already fallen in love with this mysterious artifact should know that its price is set to start somewhere in the vicinity of 150,000 Swiss francs, which translates into around 141,389.4 U.S. dollars. Yeah, that's a whole lot of money, but not necessarily the most expensive product of this type we've ever seen.
