Among its other digital cameras, Canon also announced two super-zooms from the SX series, namely the PowerShot SX20 and PowerShot SX120, both featuring optical Image Stabilization (IS). The higher performing, and the long-zoomer PowerShot SX20 has a wide angle 20x optical zoom lens empowering a 12.1-million pixel sensor of CCD type, 1/2.3" sized. Unlike its predecessor, the SX10, this one also provides you with HD video recording, full HD at a 30fps frame rate with stereo sound. Now, that's something to proud of. Imagine having the possibility of recording full HD video from behind a 560mm (
FF35 equivalent) lens.
By the way, the 28 - 560mm lens also features an ultra sonic motor and a maximum opening ranging from F/2.8 to F/5.7. One neat feature not found in many cameras is the focus bracketing. The ISO range starts from ISO80 and goes all the way to ISO1600, with ISO3200 only reachable through the dedicated scene mode.
On the other hand, the Canon PowerShot SX120 IS only has a 10x
zoom lens reach, on a 1/1.5" CCD sensor outputting 10 million pixels. Unlike the SX10, the PowerShot SX120 starts its focal range from a "standard" 36mm, so you don't get too wide with this one, unless you buy a conversion lens.
Framing pictures and reviewing them is comfy thanks to the 3.0-inch LCD with wide viewing angle. For more versatility, the PowerShot SX120 includes both Smart Auto and Easy modes with Scene Detection Technology, as well as setting with additional shooting modes, such as Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority and even full manual control.
The price tags on these two PowerShots say $399 for the SX20, while on the SX120, $249.
