As pretty much everyone around the world is probably aware by now, the IFA show from Berlin is approaching fast, and for this reason, we're likely to see a very large number of new product launches occurring over the next couple of weeks. And deciding that an early launch might be the right solution for getting more exposure, Canon has decided to release a new HD model in its VIXIA series of camcorders, namely the VIXIA HF S11 Dual Flash Memory.

According to the manufacturer, the fresh VIXIA HF S11 model retains its core imaging technologies, but adds several new features that enhance operability and deliver higher image quality. For example, the VIXIA HF S11 offers the ability to record up to 24 hours of high-definition video to a 64GB internal flash drive and the option of recording video directly to removable SDHC memory cards.

Two new features that help enhance the video capture and viewing experience are Canon’s new Dynamic SuperRange OIS system, which delivers improved shake correction by providing continuous adjustment throughout the entire zoom range, and an Advanced Video Snapshot Mode that allows users to create highlight movies by recording a series of four-second clips when in shooting mode and in playback mode.

The VIXIA HF S11 features a Genuine Canon HD Video Lens, as well as a Canon designed and manufactured 8.59-megapixel Full HD CMOS Image Sensor and Canon DIGIC DV III Image Processor. It's able to take 8.0-megapixel photos and also features Genuine Canon Face Detection, Instant AutoFocus, and the ability to record in 24p Cinema Mode or 30p Progressive Mode. In addition, the VIXIA HF S11 offers manual gain control limits and manual focus controls found in professional camcorders.

The new VIXIA HF S11 from Canon is slated to arrive in stores at some point in mid-September, with the estimated price point being set at a hefty $1,399.99.

I'm a podcast producer based in Tokyo and last week took delivery of the HF S11. I would just like to say that this camera is stunning! The picture quality is simply superb, and the image stabilisation is unlike anything I've seen on a consumer camera before.

I shot a video of a traditional Japanese dance festival last week - all handheld, and much of it filmed from quite a distance (link below).

We use it with the DM100 Directional Stereo Mic - superb piece of kit.

The battery life with the included BP-807 is dissapointing - about one hour in reality (we have now invested in the BP-827). We will also be buying a wide angle lens as for interviews you have to get a fair distance between the camera and the interviewee.

Can't recommend this camera highly enough. Works wonderfully with Final Cut / iMovie too.

The version of our video we have on Facebook is the best quality upload we have, or there's an MP4 available for download. You Tube version also available. The page in question is
