While being here on the floor of CeBIT 2009, we've come across quite a large number of very interesting and innovative devices, some of them, nevertheless, bringing a lot more than the others. And that's exactly the case with Asus' Dual Panel concept, which is, without a doubt, a true “glimpse into the future of technology” from many points of view.
Basically, the Dual Panel is, as the name says it, a computing system featuring two touchscreen displays connected by a hinge. The device is extremely thin and elegant, almost paper-like, but we can't say anything related to just how responsive the screen is, since, unfortunately, nobody was allowed to touch it.
We did manage to find out important pieces of information regarding this very interesting device. For example, as we can see from one of the photos, it's capable of running Windows 7, which means that it sports at least an Atom-grade CPU (probably, the N280, but the Asus rep we've talked to has not provided us with this detail, saying simply that we should use our “imagination” to discover the actual hardware platform).
Another very interesting thing we've noticed is that it sports an all-touch keyboard, which can probably run quite easily on either of the two displays. Sadly, the software seemed unfinished around the edges, the software keyboard looking a little “stretched out,” and it was probably just something cooked up on the run by Asus' engineers.
Since this is only a concept, there's no info on whether it will become reality in the near future, but given the rate at which technology evolves nowadays, it's very likely that it might do so at some point, like many other things we considered SF until they actually arrived in our own homes.
