California-based company Celestron, with its wide array of state-of-the-art optical technologies, has captured an enviable worldwide reputation for its well-engineered products and assisted in the exploration of the sky. A leader in designing, manufacturing and importing high-quality optical products, including computerized and non-computerized telescopes and related accessories, binoculars, spotting scopes and microscopes, Celestron enjoys international brand-name recognition.
Its latest accomplishment is the CGEM (Computerized German Equatorial Mounted) telescope, which has a fresh, attractive, bold appearance and is capable of carrying Celestron's higher-end SCT optical tubes (up to 11") securely and vibration free, which is ideal for both imaging and visual observing.
With an ergonomic design, the CGEM also features an innovative Polar alignment procedure called All-Star. All-Star allows users to choose any bright star, while the software calculates and assists with polar alignment. Another great feature of the CGEM, sure to please astroimagers, is the Permanent Periodic Error Correction (PEC) that allows users to train out the worm gears periodic errors, while the mount retains the PEC recordings. For objects near the Meridian (imaginary line passing from North to South), the CGEM will track well past the Meridian for uninterrupted imaging through the ideal part of the sky.
Moreover, the CGEM features a 40,000 object database with 400 user-definable objects and expanded information on over 200 objects. Also, the CGEM comes with Flash upgradeable hand control software, motor control units for downloading product updates over the Internet and features like Mount Calibration, Database Filter Limits, Hibernate, five Alignment Procedures, and user-defined slew limits.
"The CGEM mount is the perfect fit between Celestron's Advanced Series and CGE Series. In addition, this mount is perfect for astroimagers with its ability to track well past the meridian," said Joseph A. Lupica Jr., president and CEO of Celestron.
