Since it's already summer in most parts of the world, there is now a festival around every corner some people might enjoy visiting. Like the Glastonbury Festival, for instance, which Orange uses in order to promote one of their newest and most eco-friendly solutions, the Orange Power Wellies. These are
special boots that will allow for serious
power storage if used intensely, which you can later harness to charge various mobile gadgets.
Andrew Pearcey, Head of Sponsorship at Orange UK, said: "Orange remain loyal to the green ethos of the Glastonbury Festival and are committed to researching exciting new energy sources that can be used on site to ensure people can stay in touch with their nearest and dearest. The Orange Power Wellies use clean and renewable energy to create valuable electricity ensuring festival goers can text and phone their mates for the duration of the weekend."
How can wellies power up gadgets, right? This is the real question most of you are probably asking yourselves right now. And here's where GotWind steps in, the company that collaborated with Orange in developing the Power Wellies. They have a unique “power generating sole” capable of drawing energy from simple heat. They say that after 12 hours of dancing, the new Power Wellies will charge a phone for one hour.
Dave Pain, Managing Director at GotWind, stated: "GotWind are excited to be working with Orange for a fourth year to create an invaluable charging prototype for festival goers. Wellies are now the staple festival footwear, the Orange Power Wellies not only keep you dry but they also provide a crucial eco electricity source."
Behind the “power generating sole” is a
recently discovered effect called “Seebeck.” This is how the sole can gather energy from the heat dispersed by the user's feet. This means that festival goers will never run out of power on their phones with these wellies. Simply place the phone on the top side charging pad at the end of every festival day and keep sending live photos to your friends who missed it.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed.
