I know you have seen a lot of robots here, with the cutest of faces or the
weirdest of functionalities. Some of them built in Japan, some in Korea and there was even a French robot; nonetheless, it is not that often you get to see a Chinese robot in action. Like this one that promises to take care of kids or elder persons, built by Shenyang Siasun Robot and Automaton Co. Ltd., which falls in the “cute robots” category.
Why it's
cute, because it works as a nanny, or temporary caretaker, with all sorts of functions that will give you peace of mind when you know that you have a child or an older person alone at home and you are somewhere else, far, far away. The Family Nanny Robot, as it is called, can navigate through any house with help from special sensors and if there is any trouble like a fire or a gas leak of some sort, it will alert the authorities and also will text the adult user to let him/her know about the situation.
Like us humans, the Family
Nanny robot can work for eight hours straight, but has the advantage of a small recharging period of just two hours. It has a rather weird voice and will use it for communication purposes, of course, either when playing interactive games with the person it's taking care of or when it performs telemedicine check-ups, via its display and camera.
It has a creepy face, an 80 cm high “body” and weighs just 25 kg. Unfortunately, the company developing it will not bring it on the market any time sooner, as it estimates to make it commercially available in five years from now. The price will be of $1,500. More info about the robot on
