Have you ever dreamed of having a device that would provide you with complete control over your home entertainment, regardless of the actual audio signal source? Of a device to which you might connect your iPod, for example, and then stream the audio towards pretty much any speaker you might think of? Well, you can actually wake up now, since a company called Chord Audio has come up with a gadget to satisfy all your needs and requirements, namely the Chord Indigo.

According to the manufacturer, the Indigo has been designed as a universal control center for both digital and analogue sources. Furthermore, the Indigo incorporates an iPod dock with wireless radio link option, which can be used either with your own iPod or the one supplied as an option by Chord. If you go for the second variant, you'll be able to enjoy a much higher-quality sound than usual, since the modified iPod can deliver uncompressed audio, which generates a superior level of quality.

Using the supplied adapter digital music can also be streamed wirelessly via digital radio link from a modified iPod anywhere in a room. For unmodified Apple players, the company is also providing a standard high quality A2DP radio dongle, which links directly to the Indigo’s A2DP receiver.

From the point of view of audio quality, the device is, quite naturally, very impressive, since the harmonic distortion is below -103 dB (1kHz, 24-Bit @ 44.1KHz Sample Frequency) and below -110dB (100Hz, 24-Bit @ 44.1KHz Sample Frequency). The signal to noise ratio is also quite low (below 120dB), while the dynamic range is of 120dB.

Moreover, the device comes equipped with a wide host of interfaces, including SPDIF, AES, optical, USB and Bluetooth audio. Unlike the low quality audio seen from other Bluetooth devices, this gives us much better performance and enables CD-like transfer of music from the Bluetooth device, including here mobile phones.

Now, as expected, the Chord Indigo is an extremely expensive product, selling for somewhere in the vicinity of 8000 pounds sterling – or close to 12,000 US dollars, which, without a doubt, is kind of too much, for most people out there.
