When I was a wee kid, I loved collecting figurines. Imagining all sorts of wars between my plastic soldiers and aliens from a far away place and leading my troops to the inevitable victory. Computers were not that evolved so that one could play real time strategies such as Supreme Commander. Nowadays, I haven't the time to play with or collect figurines but every time I check out a miniature PC, I remember about the good old days, the simple days... the nineties.
Miniature PCs such as the newest member of the fit-PC family from CompuLab. Targeting networking and industrial applications, the fit-PC2i uses the Intel US15W SCH chipset and sports an Intel Atom Z5xx 1.1 GHz to 2 GHz processor. As far as the memory is concerned, it comes equipped with 1GB of DDR2 on-board memory running at 533 MHz but there is an option to have it outfitted with 2GB of memory.
It sports an internal bay for a 2.5-inch SATA HDD, a miniSD socket, as well as optional on-board 4GB of Flash memory. As far as the display and graphics are concerned, Intel's GMA500 is handling the graphics and the DVI Digital port can output to a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. The miniPC sports
Ethernet, WiFi connectivity and also four USB 2.0 high speed ports. It works with the Windows Server, Windows 7 and Ubuntu Linux operating systems.
The device will be made available in January 2010. I will leave Irad Stavi, Director of Business Development at CompuLab, handle the closing statements regarding why the fit-PC2 is to be looked at in awe, “fit-PC2 was a breakthrough in green computing. […] Now fit-PC2i enables corporate IT unprecedented energy savings where it matters most – in servers and network computers that have to work 24/7.”
