As you've probably been able to see from all of our CES reports regarding the field of home entertainment and digital imaging, pretty much all of the new devices released on the market come packed with HDMI interface, whether we're talking about HDTVs, camcorders, Blu-ray players, DSLRs, gaming consoles, or even notebooks. For this reason, things might get a little messy when trying to connect all of these things to a single HDTV (even if modern television sets come with at least four interfaces of this type), and that's exactly why JVC has launched the JX-HD401 4-In-1 HDMI Hub, a device that should help users bring some sense of order to their entertainment centers.
Pretty much in the same way as the other products of this type one can currently find on the market, the HDMI hub from JVC features four input ports and one output port. All of these ports are compliant with the HDMI 1.3 specification and support Deep Color and x.v.Color technologies. Plus, they'll work with pretty much any type of content one might throw at them, since they support 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p resolutions.
Although we're not talking about a very attractive product, the truth of the matter is that JVC's HDMI hub is a lot more attractive than Gefen's similar offering, for example, which is much more... industrial, as far as the design is concerned. The JX-HD401 has an OK appearance, which will look quite good in any home entertainment setup, at the same time occupying a fairly low amount of space, since it measures just 19 x 6.8 x 2.4 cm, at a weight of around 230 grams.
As expected, the device requires its own power source, so it's accompanied by a proprietary AC adapter and a 1.7-meter power cord. In order to make things easier for the user, it's also accompanied by a remote control, which can be used for switching between the input sources from a distance.
JVC's JX-HD401 4-In-1 HDMI Hub will arrive in stores in Japan (for now) in early February and will sell for an estimate 120 Euro (or 160 US dollars), as our colleagues from Akihabara News inform us.
