If you thought that no invention could surprise or amuse you anymore, think again. A cop from California, probably annoyed by always dealing with hot weather and soaked with sweat shirts, came up with the CoolCop idea back in 1998. Now, he is selling his invention in the US, but exclusively to police officers.

Actually, we are talking about a hose very similar to a vacuum cleaner's one that is designed to run from a car's air conditioning vent right into the policemen's shirts. This is supposed to do a much better job than any regular AC vent alone. I agree with the maker that having to drive all day when it’s hot isn't a pleasant activity, especially if wearing a bulletproof vest. But what I don't understand is why this freaky device is only marketed to cops and cops alone, because other people might need it more, for example people suffering from heart diseases.

Anyway, the main problem with this device is that it just looks wrong and this is not just a personal opinion. It is also the majority's response to this gadget on a law enforcement forum. Although it is said to have a cool relaxing effect, some of the officers fear they would be ridiculed for the rest of their career if spotted with the hose device in their cars. No wonder.

Just imagine how tough a police officer would look when trying to get out of his car with a vacuum cleaner hose attached to him. Probably the criminal would burst his sides with laughter.

The maker offers similar devices, designed for soldiers (CoolSoldier) in Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan or for police dogs (named CoolK9, of course). So, whether you are an American police officer, soldier or just worrying about your canine partner, if you want to give these devices a try, you can buy them online at about $50 for the “human models” or $70 for the doggy ones.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
