Some people might say that landline phones are pretty much dead nowadays, but the truth of the matter is that they're still very much alive, at least in some parts of the world (such as Europe, where people tend to stick to traditions). For this reason, Cordless DECT phones are still very popular, and one of the most attractive products of this type has just been introduced by Alessi and Telecom Italia.
The phone, presented by Panik Design, is the handy work of Italian designer Stefano Giovannoni, which shines out from the elegant and refined design. However, he's got some help too, since the wallpapers he designed for this phone are accompanied by a couple of ringtones created by musician Gak Sato, which do justice to the good-quality speaker this thing packs.
One of the features that really differentiate this product from all the similar ones available out there is the OLED display, which features 65.000 colors, which really come in handy in underlining the art and exquisite taste of Giovannoni's wallpapers. Moreover, the display is also used for browsing through the various menus and for viewing the time and alarm, since the cordless phone sports a built-in clock.
However, leaving aside the looks, the truth of the matter is that the phone delivers a high level of functionality, being able to carry out its main function without any major problems. Plus, it's got a built-in phonebook with 200 positions, as well as a backlit keypad, which really comes in handy when dialing numbers in the dark.
The Cordless DECT Phone by Giovannoni sells for somewhere around 115 pounds sterling (or about 175 US dollars), which is a rather hefty sum to pay for a device such as this, but, then again, anything that's got “designer” written all over it is never cheap.
