Every now and then, you stare at your computer wondering why it is you have such a big apparatus in your living room. Then, you realize you mostly use it for music when you are at home, while your work is always done on the move. When you see the stereo station lying there covered in dust, the big box starts to be even more unattractive.

You could use a laptop for working while traveling, but it is not necessarily as light a solution as you would like. If this story seems very familiar to you, then all you need is a MID. Not only are they lighter, but are also said to be better and at a more affordable price.

Although the Cowon W2 was only a rumor so far, this 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 internet machine is available now with Windows 7 Starter or Windows 7 Home Premium at a starting price of around $533 USD. The most expensive is the W2 Premium version, which comes with 80 GB HDD and Windows 7 Home Premium for the price of $658 USD.

It also features the Z520 Intel Atom processor at 1.33 GHz and 1GB DDR2 SDRAM. Though people were expecting it to come with SSD storage, I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint them. No SSD under its 4.8-inch WSVGA display, only the possibility to choose between a 60 GB and an 80 GB 1.8-inch hard disk. Add extra storage if you need it via its USB ports (two of them). You also have a mini USB port at your disposal, for whatever other gadget you need connecting.

Think you can watch movies for seven hours straight? The Cowon W2 will last that long while in video playback mode, while if you leave it lying around without charging it, it will resist in stand-by mode for up to 230 hours. It also has Skype and Jet Toolbar.

I know that there are a few more similar devices out there and even some pretty cool UMPCs/MIDs, but Cowon fans now have their own to brag about, officially.
