It's been a while since we last heard about Cowon, but the Korean company hasn't remained idle and was working hard on its next generation PMP, the X7, that comes with a 4.3 inch touchscreen together with an old fashioned hard disk for storing your music.
I have to admit that lately I haven't seen that many PMPs that come with a hard drive since pretty much all the manufacturers have turned their attention towards flash storage, but maybe that's what Cowon is referring to when they say this thing features a “retro modern design.”
Moving on, we do get a Web browser together with a Flash player so this thing isn't so outdated as that HDD makes you think, taking this route also enabling Cowon to offer the X7 with some pretty decent storage options, the X7 being available with 80GB, 120GB or 160GB drives.
Video playback is also enabled on the X7, although it seems this doesn't come with any HD playback capabilities, a FM radio, TV out port as well as Bluetooth connectivity being also added to the spec list.
In regards to
battery life, Cowon says the X7 will be able to play your favorite tunes for up to 103 hours without requiring a visit to a power socket, video playback being rated at about 10 hours.
Add to that the impressive sound quality that is pretty much a given when it comes down to Cowon and you can be sure this will be a great
PMP, if you don't care to much about video of music streaming that is.
For now, the X7 is only available to Korean customers, the 160GB version shipping for about $304 US, although there is a pretty strong chance that we will see this stateside sometime soon since
Cowon apparently sending this to the FCC for approval. (via
