Creative announced yesterday the
Inspire S2 speakers system, placed at the very top of the series, building on the heritage of merging high performance and value. This compact, yet powerful speaker system is perfect if you seek that dynamic audio boost to complement your netbook, MP3 player or desktop. The S2 speakers system gracefully combines
great sound and innovative technology into a small form factor casing that will blend smoothly into small spaces.
To make yourself an idea about the size, mind that each satellite is only a tad larger than the size of a tennis ball. Given that, and they still deliver a full rich sound capable of filling your room without hassle.
Don't even bother to conclude that the 6 watts RMS per channel (for the two satellites) and 17 watts RMS for the subwoofer won't be enough for you room. Mind that people still listen in on 2 x 2 watt amplifiers connected to DIY speakers and such. The front driver/rear-firing port tube design of the subwoofer that utilizes acoustic boundary coupling considerably increases low frequency translation.
Besides the power specs, there would be the frequency response of 40Hz to about 20,000Hz (with some attenuation, of course, but don't mind that). The signal to noise ratio is rated at >75dB. Connectivity is supported by dual inputs located on the satellite speaker - one line-in for normal inputs and one gain-adjusted AUX-in for connecting lower output handheld music devices and (I don't know for sure) you may as well be able to use
a turnatble.
The Inspire S2 is very light, weighing a mere 350grams per satellite and 1kg the subwoofer. The Creative Inspire S2 Speaker system is already available at the online store in Europe, for the suggested retail price of $112.00.
