Despite the fact that the days when Creative was considered Apple's main competitor on the PMP market are long gone, the company keeps launching portable players, hoping that at least it will manage to stand its ground against the massive avalanche of China and Korea originating products that arrive on the market almost on a daily basis. And its latest “weapon” in this never-ending market share war is the Zen MX media player, which has finally been made available in the US, after being announced in Japan back in
April.
The Creative ZEN MX is equipped with a large 2.5-inch TFT LCD display with 16.7 million colors and is available in two different storage versions, namely 8GB and 16GB. Furthermore, in order to enhance this amount of space (actually, in order to down right double it), the ZEN MX has also been equipped with a SD/SDHC memory expansion slot.
Other interesting features that add more value to Creative's PMP are the built-in FM Radio, voice recorder and the built-in alarm clock. Plus, the device makes very good use of the ZEN Patented navigation system, which makes it very easy for users to navigate through the menus and choose the entertainment option that best suits their needs at any given time.
Hassle-free, the Creative ZEN MX is easy to use right out of the box. Users will simply have to connect to a PC or laptop directly for instant recognition and a removable drive will pop up in Windows XP or Vista as an external storage device. Moreover, the bundled Creative Centrale software lets users manage their video, music and photos easily between their PC and the player.
The Creative ZEN MX will be available in stores starting with early June 2009 and will retail for $99 (the 8GB version) and $129 (the 16GB model, respectively), which are some pretty good price points, if we were to take into account everything this device has to offer.
