Believe it or not, the netbook market is blooming and, as a consequence, manufacturers keep pushing model after model of similar (as in: look, feel and configuration) netbooks. The NoteMagix M10 Netbook is nothing different. What it does bring new though is the fact that it offers a little bit of customization to the all-so-familiar netbook.
Velocity Micro (the maker behind the NoteMagix M10 Netbook) has allowed the user complete control over which components go into their netbook. Or so it appears. In fact, the netbook features the same Intel Atom N270 (1.60GHz) processor, 1GB DDR2 Memory and 10.2-inch WXGA 1024 x 600 WXGA Wide Screen Display. Although you get to choose from a list of processors and memories, there are no articles to choose from except for the ones I have mentioned.
The user gets to choose to outfit their netbook with a Vmdrive ultra slim DVD-RW optical unit, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, two different keyboards, three mice (one is the touchpad), a number of carrying cases, a network cable and APC Premium Computer Surge Strip power protection. Add the fact that you may choose from three chassis colors: black, red and blue and that's about it for the “optional” part.
Not impressed? Neither am I. However, I am impressed by the price. Buying the basic “same-old” netbook will cost you around 379 USD, while the complete version (complete with things you could do without or find for less somewhere else) will almost double its price, taking it to 725 USD. That's A LOT if you think about what this thing does and how many we can find at a much lower price.
Honestly, if the maker had given me more options for the processor and memory, I wouldn't have had a problem with the pricing. But seeing how I can find the same thing for less, the NoteMagix M10 is a no-no for me.
