Just when you thought you've heard everything there is to know about tablets, something new comes along and proves you wrong, the latest product to do so being the ARMOR X10gx Rugged Tablet, approved for use in explosive and hazardous environments, of all places.
Although DRS's Technologies
tablet certainly isn't a looker the ARMOR packs quite a punch being compliant with US's
military standard MIL-STD-810G.
This means that the ARMOR X10gx is tested for drop-shock, moisture, dust, vibration resistance, temperature and just about any other extreme condition out there.
"This
rugged tablet meets the demanding conditions encountered by people working in field service; transportation, rail and port facilities; public safety, and other areas of challenging environments, meaning it is fully protected against dust and can withstand the effects of immersion in water to depths up to 1 meter," said Mike Sarrica, vice president and general manager for DRS Tactical Systems.
The X10gx packs quite a punch in the hardware department too, the Intel Core 2 Duo 1.2GHz processor, 2GB of RAM and 64GB SSD, easily surpassing what we see in many tablet PCs.
Apart from a 1024x768 touchscreen display the X10gx also features AT&T wireless certification, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR, integrated GPS ans an optional Gobi 2000 mobile broadband module.
All that ruggedness comes at a price tough, as the ARMOR X10gx weighs no less then 2.13 kg, a lot more then a normal tablet.
If all that weight is not enough of a turn off then you should know that the first units will start shipping September 15.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
