It would seem that the days when a cassette player was the only source of entertainment within a vehicle are long gone, since the manufacturers of such products are coming out with increasingly complex products of this type, capable of providing a wide range of extra-features beside their basic ones. And one of the latest announcements from this particular market segment comes from a company called Dashboard Devices, who has just come up with the ENV system, which it touts to fully unveil at this year's CES show.
According to the company, the ENV System is capable of providing drivers with a full array of entertainment options, as well as a comprehensive navigation system. Thus, while using the ENV, drivers will be able to enjoy GPS Navigation, radio, MP3, DVDs, CDs, real-life weather information, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, rear view camera and/or parking system, and more, all in one comprehensive system.
The ENV system is actually a full-fledged car computer, formed out of two different components: the ENV In-Dash Unit (either the ENV-100, the ENV-50, or the ENV-50c) and the ENV-XC Computer, used for controlling most of the functions mentioned above via the 7-inch touchscreen included in the control unit. The computer is actually pretty powerful, since we're talking about an Intel Core Duo processor, accompanied by 1 GB of RAM memory and an 160 GB HDD for storing content.
The specific component that will allow drivers to interact with this system is the ENV In-Dash unit. This unit is designed to standard DIN (ISO/DIN Standard) sizing, which means that it can very easily replace one's previous car entertainment system without requiring any serious modifications to the dashboard.
As mentioned earlier, Dashboard Devices will provide even more info on the ENV system at this year's CES show, so we'll come back with some updates as they become available.
