Dell has made it a habit out of launching a new line of laptops every now and then. You know, to let the world hear “Hey, we're still kicking... here's a new lappie!” And since old habits die hard (harder than Bruce Willis, it seems), I find myself in the familiar position of presenting yet another in Dell's long “a laptop for everyone” line. The fresh Dell Studio 14z Laptop is the perfect device for those teenagers that eat, drink and breathe “Internet.” And God knows there's a lot of them out there.
Since this laptop is specifically designed for online usage, it will feature a 500GB hard drive and the FailSafe theft prevention. I have to admit that the FailSafe theft prevention system is perhaps the best thing to be included in this teen-oriented laptop since we know how teenagers these days tend to be pretty careless with anything but their mobile phone. You can steal the chair from under a teen and you won't hear a peep. Touch their mobile and the FBI will be after you in a second.
Anyway, the FailSafe theft prevention system tracks network information, as well as the ISP location of the laptop and allows for remote deletion of the files and locking of the laptop until the owner comes and unlocks it. The Studio 14z is stylish, thin, comes in a broad range of colors (namely six), Black Chain Link, Midnight Blue, Spring Green, Plum Purple, Ruby Red and Promise Pink (in the U.S. only version). As usual, Dell is going to donate every 5 USD it gets for the Promise Pink version to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Michael Tatelman, vice president of Dell’s global consumer sales and marketing, wanted to share something with the world, “Young people have grown up with the Internet and can find almost everything they need online. […] They want a slim, easy-to-carry laptop and like the choice of a larger hard drive over an optical drive. The Studio 14z has the storage and speed that most people need, and it comes with color options that let them truly express who they are.”
Specs are as follows: Nvidia GeForce 9400 integrated graphics, Intel Processors (Dual core or Core 2 Duo), a 14-inch LED display with 720p and 900p resolution, HDMI, 1.3MP webcam, as well as Facial Recognition Software. It also comes with all the connectivity options that an online activity-oriented gadget should have. Pricing? Well... about 649 USD.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed.
