Cloud-based computing is the future. At least, where companies are concerned. The costs to use a cloud-based system are definitely a lot lower than those of employing the use of many desktop systems for every individual employee to work on. That's why a lot of companies are starting to develop their very own thin clients in their attempt to be number one in the emerging cloud-based computing market, companies such as Devon IT that has recently announced its new Thin TC4 client model.
The TC4 has PCI expansion cards, parallel and serial legacy ports and features Windows Embedded Standard as its operating system. Of course, if you want something different, you can always choose to go with Devon IT’s embedded operating system. Believe it or not, you might want to, since it is a pretty solid OS with RDP, ICA support, as well as support for web-based applications and virtual desktop environments from Citrix, Vmware and RedHat.
“We developed the TC4 at the request of many customers who still utilize legacy ports, namely in the retail and financial services verticals,” says Stephane Verdy, chief technology officer for Devon IT. “The TC4 is ideal for point-of-sale environments and individual bank branches, and we look forward to offering this technology to our customers.”
I am sure that, pretty soon, we'll be seeing such devices populating absolutely every company office in the world. It might not be from Devon IT, but mind my words: it will be happening. One centralized system with a lot of easy to maintain, cheap computers all connected to a virtual environment created by the central computer might sound a bit far fetched but trust me, it is neither science fiction nor future tech. It is already being used by more and more companies around the world.
