You pretty well know that the PS3 Slim was not the only announcement (thank God!) that Sony made during its conference at GC2009. Thank God
something a bit more interesting and exciting (
yes, I am very disappointed at Sony's strategy with the PS3 Slim) was also announced, the Digital Reader for the PSP. Yes, my friends, the PlayStation Portable is receiving its very own Comic Reader and it is a pretty cool addition since most gamers are also avid comic readers.
"This is a great new service that offers PSP owners even more options for entertainment on the go and makes PSP a must for comics fans," says Isabelle Tomatis, European Marketing Manager, Hardware and Platforms, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.
"Digital Comics will sit alongside the new PlayStation Network video download service as yet another way that PSP offers a whole world of entertainment in your hands."
Curious what you are to expect from the comic book reader? Well... how about some of your favorites such as Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Transformers, Star Trek, Archie Comics and others? How about graphic novels, comics from local publishers and more and more updates that are to come in the near future?
Not to mention a pretty flashy interface, with the Autoflow feature allowing you to zoom in, as well as moving frame to frame in order to mimic what your eyes would be looking at when actually reading a paper comic book.
"PSP's new digital reader offers an unprecedented consumer experience that will extend the world of Marvel from print pages into the hands of fans around the world. We are excited to be part of this launch," said Ira Rubenstein, executive vice president, global digital media group, Marvel Entertainment.
At least Sony did something good for once. Though knowing it, I wouldn't bet that there isn't a catch to the reader as well.
