When it comes to touchscreens there are some people out there that think anything is better if you add a touch interface to it, Displax certainly being one of those since they just came up with a solution that can transform any HDTV, Plasma or rear projection screen into a multitouch surface.
Dubbed the Overlay Multitouch, this solution is available for screens ranging in size from 32 inches to 103 inches, and comes packed with a base price of 1,300 Euros, so you must be prepared to pay a pretty penny if you want such a large touchscreen to play with.
But this is not all, since the company also introduced the Displax Oqtopus, a touch enabled table that is capable of individually processing four input signals thanks to its optical technology that can work with any sort on input device, either a finger or a stylus, gloves also not being a problem.
Its insides hide a 42-inch HD LCD screen as well as a
Windows 7 running PC, Displax saying this portable table is built using a tempered glass top making it ideal for museums or classroms.
As it was the case with the Overlay Multitouch, the Oqtopus also comes with a hefty price tag, users having to put up with prices ranging from 4,500 Euros, for the basic edition, to 6,500 Euros for the complete
solution including an LCD and a PC.
"As an expert on interactive technologies, customers have approached us in search for a product that is portable, easy to install, inexpensive, and can handle a limited amount of touches," explains Miguel Fonseca, Chief Business Officer of Displax.
"While we are finalizing our powerful Displax Multitouch Technology to be available to the market soon, we have decided to cooperate with strong Research & Development partners to be able to immediately offer our customers compelling products that meet their requirements."
End of it all, I can't say the prospect of owing a 103 inch
touchscreen TV sounds too bad to me, but at those prices I highly doubt it I will have the pleasure of owing such a device anytime soon.
