Right now, there are many ways of controlling one's computer from a distance, but most of them involve the use of a mouse and keyboard combo, which tends to occupy quite a hefty amount of space around the house. However, it seems that a company called EFO has come up with a little device called the EFO Wireless Handheld Keyboard and Touch Pad, which provides a higher level of control over one's media.
According to the manufacturer, the compact (85 x 135 x 10 mm) and lightweight (60 grams) product will very easily connect
wirelessly to a computing system via the included 2.4G DSSS technology, offering users access to all of their desired functions from up to 10 meters (33 feet) away. Practically, by using this tiny, smartphone-shaped product, there won't be any need for a remote control, a mouse or a keyboard.
The EFO Keyboard is formed out of two important parts, namely the QWERTY keyboard itself (which, as mentioned above, looks a lot like the keyboard you'd find on a smartphone, only larger), and the touchpad area that can be used just like the similar
control device on any laptop, at the same time supporting hand-writing recognition. Plus, the keyboard is backlit, which means that one won't have too many problems using this thing in the dark.
The device is powered by rechargeable Li-ion batteries that provide an estimated functioning time of around two days, with the actual recharge time being quite a short one, namely of about two hours or so. It's also compatible with a wide array of operating systems (Mac OS, Linux, Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows Vista), but also with the most popular gaming consoles around, including here the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii.
The EFO Wireless Handheld
Keyboard and Touch Pad has an estimated price point of around 40 US dollars, which is not exactly that high, all things considered, especially taking into account this thing's very impressive level of versatility.
