While summer is the period of the year when most people are looking for seaside/ocean side relaxing vacations, which involve laying in the sun and splashing around in water, DeLorme is now at the Teva Mountain Games in order to showcase their outdoor solution for social networking from the top of the mountains. The people who will always prefer the mountain, either for skiing, climbing or pure and simple exploration, now have the Earthmate PN-60w GPS with SPOT to keep in touch with their friends situated at sea-level altitudes.
"We're excited to introduce the Earthmate PN-60w with SPOT Satellite Communicator to serious outdoors enthusiasts at the Teva Mountain Games," said DeLorme Product Manager Chip Noble. "The ability to navigate confidently in remote locations and stay connected with customized satellite messaging means peace of mind wherever you go."
The handheld GPS
PN-60w integrates a keyboard that can be used to send messages, emails and even SOS messages with embedded GPS coordinates from any remote location, or to simply stay in touch with friends over the popular social networking websites, including Geocaching
, Facebook and Twitter.
Another useful feature of this satellite-based global positioning system
is its allowing for families to keep track of their adventurer relatives via Google Maps. Of course, none of these functions would be made available on the PN-60w without the SPOT Satellite Communicator, which users will have to subscribe to.
Both gadgets are waterproof and ruggedized so that they withstand the harsh conditions in which they will most likely be used. DeLorme Trop North America GPS maps and computer software are included in the Earthmate PN-60w package, which will start shipping in July. SPOT is also included. Separate payments can be made for Navionics lake maps and marine charts and a few other similar charts.
