Packard Bell definitely took us by surprise when it announced its latest additions to the DOT netbook series (since rumors said it would retire the DOTs). Well, it seems that Packard Bell has more aces up its sleeves.

Introducing the latest and, in some ways, the greatest Packard Bell laptop: the 13.4-inch EasyNote Butterfly laptop. The Butterfly is especially designed for efficient energy use, with enough technologies behind it to ensure it has enough autonomy for as much as an entire working day (which is approximately 8 to 9 hours, by the way).

The device uses an unspecified Ultra Low Voltage Intel processor, Radeon HD4330 dedicated graphics (with the option of turning it off for further energy saving), a choice between SSD and Hard Drive storage and an unspecified (I'd say 2GB) in size DDR3 memory. It features Bluetooth connectivity, optional 3G, HDMI audio/video output, a multitouch trackpad and an LED backlit display.

And sleek

Cool, sleek and elegant, this device definitely has a great look. It's about 1-inch (2.54 cm) thick and weighs less than most 13.4-inch laptops. What that means exactly I can't tell you. It has a black and dark silver colored casing, and a brushed aluminum palm rest that, together with the black matte keyboard and frame, really say “elegant.” If you agree that a good-looking gadget is already 50% sold, then you'll definitely buy the Butterfly.

It has curves that would drive any laptop enthusiast crazy, power saving features, and performance that... well, from what I can tell (but I admit there's not much info regarding this) should beat most sub-notebooks on the market. I said sub-notebooks and not netbooks because, to me, 13.4 is too much for a netbook. Right now, the Butterfly is Europe exclusive.
