As we've said time and time again, it seems that the “all-green” trend is starting to take up pretty much every aspect of the consumer electronics market, including here that of fitness-related products. And this is exactly the case with the particular device you'll read about as follows, namely the EcoMill from Woodway, which is a completely self-contained running mill.

Hence, the EcoMill is an all "green" manually powered treadmill that uses zero electricity, given the fact that it utilizes a 12vdc/12ah sealed rechargeable battery to power the display and elevation systems, the electricity required by the battery being generated by users while they are exercising. Of course, a power management system has also been included, this being the key piece to the treadmill's impressive low level of power consumption.

The EcoMill takes advantage of Woodway's superior, near frictionless drive system, which incorporates 114 precision ball bearings and a toothed belt and drive wheels. It also incorporates 47 individual rubber slats, a speed control system and an elevation system, which can alter the device's angle between 0 and 15%.

Furthermore, the eco-friendly EcoMill offers a fairly large running surface, namely 22 x 52 inches (55.8 cm x 132 cm). However, installing it within a gym or fitness center will require quite a hefty amount of force, given the fact that this thing weighs around 445 lbs. (201 kilos).

While this is quite obviously designed in order to help people lose some weight, it does have some limitations, as it supports a maximum user weight of around 800 lbs. (362 kilos) for walking and 500 lbs. (226 kilos) for running.

Woodway’s EcoMill treadmill is available in black and green versions and sells for $8,500, which is not even that high a price, especially given the fact that, unlike normal treadmills, it cuts down to zero the power consumption-related costs.
