Unlike ordinary computer processors, GPUs have a lot more computing power when it comes to highly parallel tasks such as video processing, Elemental Technologies just announcing they are prepared to harness all the power inside Nvidia's Fermi chips with their latest Elemental Live and Elemental Server video transcoding solutions.
Available sometime in the next 30 days, Elemental Server release 1.4 and Elemental Live release 1.1 both offer support for graphics cards built using
Nvidia's Fermi architecture such as the Quadro 6000, Quadro 5000, and Quadro 4000 professional GPUs.
These new solutions will allow simultaneous conversion of multiple HD, SD and 3D videos while also adding a bunch of interesting features like a new scaler and interpolated frame rate converter, Apple ProRes 422 decoding support and an improved video pipeline to further increase system efficiency, capacity and throughput.
Improved support for streaming to Microsoft Silverlight players and to Apple devices including the iPad and iPhone is also provided in this two new offerings.
"Elemental is committed to delivering the fastest and most efficient compression technologies to
video content producers and distributors," said Sam Blackman, CEO and co-founder of Elemental Technologies.
"The increased processing power available with the Nvidia Fermi architecture, combined with a newly implemented feature set make Elemental's video processing solutions the most powerful and robust available for multi-screen adaptive video delivery today."
This does indeed look like an important update for Elemental Server and Elemental Live solutions, but, unfortunately, the pricing of the units hasn't been made available until now.
