With all the Internet tablets and 3D displays that arrive on the market these days we usually don't have the time to cover as much as we would love to the segment of watches, which, after all, are pretty much the first true “gadgets” to have ever arrived on the market, but when we come across a masterpiece such as Ulysse Nardin's new Freak Diavolo Rolf 75, we can't help but share it with you.

The timepiece was developed by the Swiss watch manufacturer to commemorate the 75th birthday of its owner and president, Rolf Schnyder, and will be available in a very limited edition, with only 75 to be sold across the world.

An evolution of the 2001 Freak, the Freak Diavolo follows in its predecessor’s footsteps, featuring a devilish-in-appearance power-reserve backing, with red “horns” and black cloak-like backdrop.

The device also sports a minimalist and unconventional design, with the Freak’s tourbillon carousel possessing no true dial, crown or hands and being the first timepiece to successfully present escapement wheels constructed of silicium.

The Freak Diavolo can be wound by turning the lower bezel, and the time can be adjusted by turning the upper bezel.

While the direct gear link crafted between the three “hands” averts dephasing, or the throwing of hours, minutes and seconds out of step when adjusting or readjusting time.

The Freak Diavolo is also stunning in aesthetic with its clean lines, robust black and charcoal tones, accents of vibrant color, platinum case and elegant crocodile strap.

"Almost 30 years ago, I bought Ulysse Nardin, a calculated risk as I believed there was a strong chance that unique, innovative mechanical watches could thrive and it turns out I was right," said Rolf Schnyder, owner and president on Ulysse Nardin.
