Everyone's waiting for the biggest names in the industry to make their CES announcements, and although some of them have already started doing so, we're still a long way to go. Quite obviously, one of the most awaited announcements is that of Korean company Samsung, whose
CES line-up was leaked a few days ago, but who, apparently, still has some aces up its sleeve.
And without a doubt, one of the most important products that will surely steal the show at CES will be the company's upcoming ultra-thin Blu-ray player, whose first photos have just hit the Internet (courtesy of Japanese website
Akihabara News), creating quite a stir among users, due especially to its very sleek and attractive design.
Unlike most other BD players, which tend to have a classic, rectangular, “set-topish” form factor, the new device from Samsung will be a lot curvier (to some extent, similar to the PS3), as well as very thin, at just around 39 mm. In fact, as expected, this ultra-small, ultra-compact form factor is designed to compliment the company's line of HDTVs, which, as we know, tend to get thinner and thinner with each passing month, Samsung prepping a 6.5-inch model for the International Consumer Electronics Show.
Unfortunately, no info has been provided for the time being regarding the future player's specs, but we can pretty much bank on 1080p playback, a HDMI interface, and, most likely, support for Blu-ray Profile 2.0, thus allowing users to access extra content available online, such as movie comments.
Of course, we'll have to wait a bit more for Samsung's official announcement in order to find out more info on this device's specs and features, but, hopefully, we're talking just about a few hours, since the company's CES press event is scheduled to take place later on today.
