I believe that many of us have dreamed at least once in our lifetime to be able to fly like a bird. Many of us keep dreaming of such a moment, while others are actually doing something about it, by taking up, for example, sky diving. And for exactly this specific category of users, the folks over at Birdman have come up with the FIREBIRD-R suit, a wingsuit that offers a high performance range, as well as a flat glide ratio and maneuverability combined with harmony and ease of use.
As expected from a suit designed specifically for sky diving, the FIREBIRD-R provides a lot of features meant to enhance the feeling of gliding through the air. For example, it features the BIRDMAN Bi-Convex wing profile, with a trailing edge that decreases drag and makes the wing faster through the airstream generating extra speed and lift, plus a wind-tunnel tested wing design that maximizes high-performance without compromising access to BOC pilot chute.
The suit also sports front- and back air-inlets with airlocks that allow smooth flying even when flying on one's back, as well as new wingtip grippers with “pockets” that permit perfect control of the arm wing and a fresh Semi-Rigid rib technology that prevents wing-movement during the flight and increases performance.
Furthermore, this very interesting wingsuit offers a couple of special safety and comfort features, such as windproof main fabrics, high performance, sturdy and high strength, both 54 g Rip-Stop Balloon ZP & Extra Sturdy Parapack for hard core-use. The FIREBIRD-R packs easy accessible cut away pillows & loop, a wing attachment that prevents emergency handles from hiding, as well as adjustable thumb loops.
Other features include robust leather for the booties, as well as L.Q.R.S. (leg wing quick release) for additional, safety, a high collar for comfort and protection, plus a windproof safety belt access.
The FIREBIRD-R Wingsuit is not exactly the most affordable skydiving accessory out there, but it's not that expensive, either, since it sells for somewhere around 530 Euro, a price point many will probably find quite attractive, given the feeling such a suit can provide in the air.
