Summer is probably the best of all seasons, well at least for outdoor recreation. Going to the beach is always nice, but that won't quite keep you in shape. Try the pool once in a while, do some laps. The most annoying thing is when you forget to switch on your lap counter. That always has to happen when you do your best lap. Sure, you could approximate the time, but try counting your laps and strokes too. To keep you from distress, Swimovate came up with the Pool-Mate.
As of now, the Pool-Mate is the only fully automatic lap and stroke counter out there. It's more of a specialized watch so don't expect it to play MP3s or display your heart's BPM. However, it will display any major strokes, all swimmer levels and any pool size. Sporting accurate motions sensors and a unique Swimovate software algorithm, it will recognize automatically each and every swim stroke and lap changes. That's right, no more counting so you can focus on your swimming.
The lap count is displayed at the top of the dot-matrix LCD with a stated 99.75% accuracy in pools longer than 10 meters as well as lap time at the bottom of the screen. Pool-Mate will also display average strokes per lap, your speed, distance, calories and efficiency completely automatically. The features don't end here though. Thanks to the large implemented memory, all the details will be stored for you to recall anytime.
Besides the statistics for the overall session, the same data will be recored for up to 99 individual sets so you can observe your improvements during swimming. Like every major leaps, there has to be a downside too. The battery only last for about twelve months, after which you'll have to send the watch back to Swimovate to get it replaced. Available in grey/blue (as pictured) or black/blue, the price tag is set to $114 and the shipping should start later this month.
