Compatible with PCs, netbooks, notebooks and smartphones, an improved version of Broadcom's BTW software has been loaded onto their BCM2070 single-chip Bluetooth solution and promises some good improvements users will be able to benefit from if using a Windows-operated gadget. Some of these enhancements include integration of Maestro, a technology that allows for devices to instantly interconnect.
"Bluetooth software continues to be a key differentiator
for technology suppliers, with new and innovative functionality increasingly happening at the software layer. As a key supplier of wireless technologies, Broadcom's continued enhancement of its BTW software enables better cooperation among various devices that will help drive the expansion of the growing wireless ecosystem in consumer electronics devices," said Phil Solis, Practice Director Wireless
Connectivity at ABI Research.
Gamers will probably be very enthusiastic about a new, faster software for
Bluetooth tethering since most gaming peripherals are Bluetooth-enabled and a lot of avid players out there still prefer powerful PC gaming systems as the main platform for their favorite entertainment activity. However, the new BTW 6.4 from Broadcom is not limited to only such peripherals, as it is now capable of connecting almost any gimmick to a PC, including wireless health monitoring devices such as scales or heart rate trackers.
Craig Ochikubo, Vice President & General Manager of Broadcom's Wireless Personal Area Networking line of business, stated: "As Bluetooth continues to expand into products and applications beyond wireless headsets, software innovation becomes increasingly important to enable new functionality and ensure that Bluetooth works well with other technologies like Wi-Fi®. Our BTW software is the most mature and widely deployed Windows software in the industry and our ability to add new features and simplify ease of use keeps us at the forefront of the evolving Bluetooth ecosystem."
Broadcom also plans to integrate the newly announced BTW 6.4 onto other chipsets, besides the BCM2070 chip.
