Asus is definitely a company full of surprises. It's been presenting us with so many models at CeBIT 2009 that one cannot begin to even guess what it will come up with next. On that note, it seems that Asus has also been interested in the gaming population. And because gaming is usually a sport that you can only do from the comfort of your own abode, Asus plans to make gamers more mobile thanks to its new G71Gx notebook, Intel Centrino 2-based and featuring NVIDIAs GTX 260 GeForce GPU with a measly 1GB DDR3 VRAM.
In case you are wondering, that's double the memory of the previous G71. Its three SODIMM slots allow configurations of up to 12GB RAM, enough to help the NVIDIA GPU display high-quality images at a resolution of 1920 x 1200 thanks to its 17-inch display. The GTX 260M supports SLI four twin graphics hardware and Hybrid SLI to switch to the integrated graphics so as to reduce power consumption.
Its two hard drive bays provide up to 1 TB storage, enough for you to install your favorite games even on a Blu-ray medium or to listen to your favorite music in high-quality thanks to its Altec Lansing speakers. We have no current info on the price but it's surely not going to be a very affordable machine. Thank the Lord that gamers tend to overlook things such as steep prices, in order to satisfy their gaming desire.
I have to admit that, as a gamer, I like it when companies such as Asus make attempts at satisfying customers whose hobbies tend to never leave the privacy of their home. And besides that obvious good marketing decision, I'm more than happy to see an Asus device that doesn't have the Eee brand attached to its name.
