GPS devices seems to go anywhere, from
your smartphone to the bike trail, as Garmin's latest touchscreen
enabled Edge 800 navigation system seems to prove.
Built on top of the existing
Edge 500 and Edge 705 navigation units, the Edge 800 takes the most popular
aspects of the previous units, adds a touchscreen, and recommends
itself as the ultimate cycling navigation system available.
And this may well be the case as the
Edge 800 can display an impressive amount on information on its 2.6
inch display and requires no calibration so just mount it in and you
are set to go.
Garmin says that this is possible
thanks to its HotFix technology that quickly acquires and maintains
satellite reception, this device being also capable of tracking
speed, distance, time, GPS position, elevation, calories burned,
climb and descent.
All these informations can then be
uploaded in the Garmin Connect free to join online community that can
display metrics such as time, distance, speed, elevation and heart
rate through charts and a variety of map representations, including
street, satellite, topographic, and elevation maps.
Add to that the 15 hours battery life
that Garmin states for this
navigation system and you got yourself a
really impressive bit of kit, that will surely make all the other
riders jealous.
Unfortunately, all this bike navigation
Nirvana won't come cheaply as
engadget states the Edge 800 will
retail for $449 or $649 depending on the bundle included.
