It would seem that, as far as iPhone and iPod docking is concerned, the latest thing for manufacturers of consumer electronics is to come up with certain products that are able to easily take care of both tasks, thus being a premium choice for the hardcore Apple fans out there. And that's exactly the type of product you'll read about as follows, namely the CRG-200W, launched back in July 2009 and showcased by the people over at Gear4 at IFA 2009.
According to the manufacturer, the CRG-200W can be described as “an alarm clock radio with a difference.” In fact, what differentiates this thing from the horde of similar products out there is the dual docking system, Gear4's device being able to dock the iPhone and iPod at the same time (which, however, is not even that innovative a feature, since there are already a few
other such products out there).
While docked, the two Apple products will also be charged, while users will be able to choose whether they want to wake up to the music stored within their iPod or iPhone (something I can only envision as a useful feature in the situation when one spouse owns an iPod and the other an iPhone).
Its
built-in FM radio with 30 programmable preset stations is also a wake-up option, while users can simply choose a buzzer, should they desire so. Other features include a dimmable LCD display, a video out port for linking up to a TV to enjoy one's iPhone movies from bed and a line in port for use with other music players.
Unfortunately, despite being a fairly interesting product, Gear4's CRG-200W iPod/iPhone docking
alarm clock radio does have a major problem, namely the fact that it's quite on the expensive side, selling for around 80 pounds sterling (132 US dollars), which is not exactly the kind of money most customers would be willing to spend on an alarm clock.
