The portable eBook reader segment is on the rise, as new and improved products of this type arrive on the market almost on a daily basis. Naturally, some are manufactured by the biggest names in the industry (
Amazon, Sony, Barnes & Noble, Apple, etc.), but the large majority belong to lesser-known, China-based companies. And, in fact, that's exactly the case with the particular model you'll read about as follows, namely the Gemei GM2000, an eBook reader that comes equipped with a
7-inch touchscreen color display.
Despite of the fact that the displays' resolution is restricted to 800x480 pixels, Gemei claims that its
reader can easily support 1920x1080p playback, the list of compatible video formats being, in fact, quite impressive, since we're talking about RM, RMVB, AVI, MKV, VCD, DVD, MOVE etc. Things look equally promising in the field of audio playback, the eBook reader supporting the MP3, WMA, APE and FLAC music formats.
Of course, the Gemei GM2000 will blaze through the most popular eBook formats out there, including TXT, PDF, CHM, HTM, PDB, UMD formats, while also supporting font change and TTS functions. The color display can really come in handy for viewing photos, the JPG, BMP, GIF and PNG formats being supported.
Not enough for you? Well, in that case, we'll also have to mention that this thing also comes equipped with HDMI and TV-out interfaces, a 0.5w speaker, a built-in microphone, 4GB of memory onboard, support for TF memory card (max up to 32GB expansion) and a 2500mAh li-ion battery which offers around 8 hours of reading. No details on the pricing and availability just yet, unfortunately.
