To be honest, it's been a long time since we've seen anything truly exciting related to light bulbs. I mean, these basic fixtures have remained largely unchanged over the years, with more or less significant power efficiency changes being carried out. However, it seems that this is not at all the case with the GeoBulb, a newly-developed type of bulb that overhauls the whole bulb concept, while being available at an absolutely huge price point (at least, as far as this particular type of devices is concerned).
Hence, as the
Times-Standard informs us, a US firm called the C. Crane Company has just come up with what seems to be the world's most energy-efficient light bulb, which uses just a mere 7.5 watts to provide as much light as a 60-watt bulb. Furthermore, the estimated life span has also been seriously improved, compared to classical solutions, the GeoBulb having an estimated functioning life of around 30,000 hours (or ten years).
As some of you might have guessed, the secret behind the numbers mentioned above is LED technology, which, as we all know only too well, offers lower power consumptions and a much longer functioning life-span than normal bulbs. Plus, the bulb is available in three color spectrums: cool, soft and warm.
Now, leaving aside just how amazingly energy-efficient the aforementioned light bulb is, one major issue remains: that of pricing. Hence, the GeoBulb LED light bulb has an estimated price point of around 130 US dollars, which, without a doubt, makes it the most expensive of its kind, many times over the average price of normal bulbs (even economy ones). For this reason, it remains to be seen just how many people will actually adopt such a solution, but with the right subsidies and a high-enough price drop, this bulb's level of popularity might skyrocket.
