Besides allowing drivers to find directions in a relatively fast and easy manner, the GPS system also allows people to keep an “eye” out on their property (vehicles and various assets). And we're not talking about some short-sighted guard, but about those eyes in the sky that never sleep: the geostationary satellites.
This can be done with the help of a little device called a GPS tracker, and that's exactly the subject of the article at hand. In fact, what we'll talk about here is the TR-151 from GlobalSat, a GPS tracker that, in the end, could prove to be a lot better than a security firm in protecting one's assets, and keener than a private eye when some tracking action is involved.
First of all, it's important to mention that the GlobalSat TR-151 is a GPS/GSM/GPRS tracker, which means that it can track its exact geographical position via the GPS system, and then send out the data to the user's mobile phone via a SMS, or to a personal computer by connecting to a GPRS network. This way, users can immediately track the whereabouts of their property, without having to actually retrieve the device itself.
Additionally, the device can also be used as an “instant-alarm,” since it features an “SOS” button, which allows it to immediately generate a distress call.
Now, I won't go into any further details regarding the TR-151's components and specs, because it would simply take too much time. What I will point out, though, because it actually is quite important, is the fact that the device from GlobalSat is very small and portable (86.7x48.9x32.5 mm), is water resistant, and is powered by a 2100mA rechargeable Li-ion battery, which, according to the manufacturer, provides quite an OK functioning life.
Since we're talking about a very advanced tracking system, it's actually no wonder that the TR-151 has an estimated retail price of around 350 US dollars, which, albeit a little spicy, still makes it quite attractive, especially for companies with large vehicle fleets.
