If you are like me and find yourself in pursuit of the ultimate picture quality then you definitely know the TN panels used in most monitors that are available right now offer only a mediocre color reproduction while also coming with a few other shortcomings, so you will be glad to know BenQ has just added two new VA options to its monitor range, the VW2420 and EW2420.
Since we recently had the chance of going up close and personal with the former model I am glad to be able to share with you my experience with the BenQ VW2420 monitor.
First of all let me tell you this is indeed one stylish monitor, the VW2420 coming in with a really thin profile and sleek lines, a long departure from previous VA or
IPS offerings that usually had a more subtle look since they primarily targeted professional users.
However, looks weren't what I was after when I went for the VW2420 since I was more interested in how BenQ did overcome some of the shortages of VA panels like the slowish response times and limited brightness.
There are other problems associated with VA panels such as color shifting when the display is viewed off-perpendicular, but I am happy to report the VW2420 didn't exhibit any problems when it came to color-shifting or image brightness.
I can't tell you all that much about response times since all the demos that ran on the
monitor were meant to showcase the high 3000:1 contrast ratio and accurate color reproduction, so I am not sure how well will the 8ms response time do with action packed movies or games.
Visibility angles were also really good,
BenQ stating 178 degrees, both horizontally and vertically, and I tend to agree with them.
The only problem that I see with the VW2420 is that it comes with a limited number of input options (HDMI being MIA) although this inconvenient can be sorted out pretty easily if you go for the EW2420 that has a somewhat thicker case but it packs two HDMI inputs and a bunch of other connectors while using the same A-MVA panel as its younger sibling.
All in all, I would have to say that I was really pleased after seeing the VW2420 since it comes with a great picture quality without costing you an arm and a leg to get it, its older brother, the EW2420, going for about 280 Euros when it will become available in Europe.
